COLLABORATION
Introduction

Self-assessment was conducted in order to examine what elements within the Brand Vision Board and Playbook needed adjustment, as well as, critiques from peers and professors. Firstly, self-assessment is important for a variety of reasons. It involves “not simply self-rating or grade guessing, [but] is a substantive process in which students seek and use feedback from various sources, reflect on it, and then judge their learning performance against selected criteria” (Panadero, Brown, and Strijbos, 2016). The action of assessing oneself should be a combination of processes that utilize feedback from others alongside reflection and judgment of how their material fulfilled the required criteria for grading. The benefits of evaluations from other include fully understanding ones strengths and weaknesses are essential for development (Foong et al., 2015). Critique centered around pointing out the shortcomings of a project tend to prevent unwanted and preventable errors (Le Sueur et al., 2020). The tools used to perform general assessment within developing The Support Circle included scheduling/reflection of scheduling, as well as, self-reflective forms required throughout design courses. Moreover, feedback from instructors and peers was considered throughout the design process as well. Feedback from mentioned sources provides meaningful perspectives that help to consider which elements within designs that need to be adjusted or eliminated in order to create a positive and impactful brand.

Self Assessment: Logo Thumbnail Sketches

Self-assessment began with logo sketches being critiqued. After the development of sketches, there was the process of evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each design in order to select the best logo to continue developing. Based upon instructor feedback as well, it was decided to proceed with the designs number 1(in combination with 3), 4, 11, 12, 14, and 22 as expressed below:

From this process, the fifth logo was developed by considering refinements to overshadowing and the overuse of detail (also expressed as critique from instructors). The sixth logo was also refined to be more simplistic as presented in its initial level one design.

Based upon the strength of the sun design being impactful in both colored and black and white versions it was decided to finalize design number six as the official design logo for the brand.

Self-Assessment: Scheduling

The second element as previously mentioned was the scheduling method which required the brand to create an action plan for producing the Brand Playbook. An example of the required assets and a sample schedule for completing the assets can be seen below:

Also, there was the presence of self-assessment by way of required forms that also aided in keeping record of the progress within assets for the Brand Playbook as presented below:

Instructor Feedback of Brand Type
& Playbook Assets Refinements

The feedback regarding the text included considering a text that was more simplistic to create more contrast within the design i.e., (making the name more pronounced). Also, feedback suggested making images “cut out” from their original background in order to create variety within the Brand Playbook. An expression of adjustments was also presented for reference of proposed changes as seen below:
As a result of the proposed feedback, the shirt was added some additional ovals that were the colors of the rays to create a more engaging and playful design. Also, the text was modified to a simpler type for readability. Additionally, two images within the Playbook were cut out and changed into stand-alone images to create variety within the display. The alterations to the assets and Brand Playbook are displayed below:

Assessment: Peer Evaluation for Brand Playbook

Evaluation from peers occurred for the formation of the Brand Playbook as well. The overall critique encompassed being more mindful of the alignment of text, margin, and spacing. From this evaluation, there were slight adjustments to the spacing of the text. However, the spacing of the text was not significantly adjusted due to the intention of imbalance throughout the work in order to convey uniqueness and unconventionality.
Conclusion

The processes within this section of the brand address collaborative efforts with the intention of creating effective design within The Support Circle brand. The methods for conducting research included peer, instructional, and self-assessment provided throughout previous courses. Through the use of illustration and reflection, it is intended to provide helpful insights that guided the creation of design elements within the brand.

Self-Assessment:
Logo Refinements

From these initial sketches there was experimentation of text/object placement and alignment to both designs that can be seen below:
Next, there was the creation of the black/white and colored version of the logo as seen in the following image:

“The process for completing assets this week was by first deciding to change my approach to the medium and selecting to do a Spotify audio ad instead of an animation due to the ability to connect with teens who likely listen to music. It was first researched similar advertisements that addressed teen groups and brand such as listed below:
Next, a script was written that included elements that were recorded. Also, saved elements of audio that complimented the recorded audio as expressed in the voice and music attachments below this description. The intention for the remainder of the week is to combine all elements together to create a cohesive audio advertisement. Also, to refine previous projects to add professionalism and cohesion as well.”
Within this plan, there was the implementation of what categories within each section that needed to be completed within a week and how those goals would be “broken down” into smaller actionable steps each day of the week. Afterwards, an instructor challenged the designer to also reflect on whether or not those weekly goals were met and if not, how they were planning on fulfilling those tasks in a timely manner. This scheduling system helped to implement self-accountability and focus that were integrated into other assignments as well. An example of a reflection of the scheduling process can be seen in the following statement:
